knobthrough:

I finally went and found one of the three Korean restaurants in my town today.  I feel almost silly and definitely predictable when I say it was underwhelming.  Nothing was as fresh as I’m accustomed to.  The flavors were dull, lacking the zing I expect from Korean food.  The owner was nice, but not nearly as accommodating as he could have been.  Worse still, he kept monkeying with my grill, turning it down when I knew good and well it was too cold.  Even after telling the guy I just got back from Korea, he couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact I just might have a clue how to cook the meat.  To top it all off, he forced some lemon into my glass before I had a soju.  It’s nice he was concerned for me, but that’s a bush league move right there.  In the end though, it was nice to sit in front of a grill, plates and bowls obscuring all but a little of the table top, listening to the faint sizzle of pork and beef on (sort of) hot metal.  It was no Mr. Kim’s, but it’ll tide me over for now.

Edit; oops.  Wrong blog.

Wrote this while still logged in to another blog.  My bad.
