Sex And The City
It’s no secret prostitution is big business in many places in Asia, Korea included.  Though it isn’t thrown right in your face.  It’s not like driving down an intercity street, where junkies in patent leather min skirts and 8 inch heels are looking to smooch some pole for $5 to get their next hit of crack.  It’s a bit more subtle here.  After a while you begin to recognize...

Not That Many of You Will Care...
But here are a few thoughts on UFC 93. Fisrt off, watching the Korean feed wasn’t at all bad.  Save Rogan’s commentary I didn’t miss anything.  A few things were curious though;  the phrases “main event” and “inside leg kick” were both repeated multiple times, in English.  Are there not Korean equivalents?  Surely there must be.  Main event I can see,...

See Food
I went out to eat with everyone last Sunday.  Nearing five months in and this was my first proper meal of seafood.  Most of it was very good.  Some of the raw, more questionable items took some choking down, but that is all part of the fun.   A huge plate of flounder sashimi was the star of our dinner.  Very good and very fresh.  This same fish was probably swimming in a tank 20 minutes before...

Ego Boost
If you ever want to feel really good about yourself, play a game of Scrabble with some people who can barely speak English.  You’ll walk out of the room feeling like the smartest person alive.

Business Unusual
In a previous post I mentioned the business below my apartment was in some kind of live animal distribution.  It seems they have moved from that into some kind of frozen fish processing and distribution.  I’ll come home sometimes and see boxes of huge, flat fish waiting around to be hacked up.  I’ve seen them cleaning a big saw a few times, but I really don’t know what exactly...

Night Shift
I just finished a big post about my new schedule only to lose it when my connection crapped out as it loaded.  Rather than try to recreate it, here are some of the finer points it covered…. 1- I work 7-10 every night, a pretty sweet schedule for as long as it lasts. 2- A drawback to that is I stay up very late, often until 8AM and don’t get up until 3PM 3- This leaves me with a lot...

Seoul Sucking Photo Dump 2.0
The Kimchi Museum.  Where dreams come true.  Or where you fight your way through a mall to be disappointed by a lackluster exhibit.  And then realize you are a douche bag for even thinking a kimchi museum located inside a mall basement might be even remotely cool.  Even the samples sucked. Me and The Shitbird met up with Jordan for drinks one night.  In spite of the fact I look more loaded...

Baby Belcher
I just woke up to a few e-mails telling me Tamara had her baby.  Five weeks premature, but otherwise healthy.  5 pounds, 15ounces.  19 inches long.  And despite what most of us seemed to think, it was a boy.  No name yet, though I still think Ty is a dignified and noble moniker.  Just saying.  Looks like I have a new nephew.  Holy shit.

The Foreign Relations Blues
I suppose it’s somewhat fitting that in the wake of the holidays I am feeling my first bout of homesickness.  It’s certainly not an overwhelming, pervasive thing that has consumed me entirely, but I have noticed myself feeling a little down the last few days.  A bit blue, you might say.   Having Julie here for Christmas was great.  To be with someone whose friendship is based on more...

Mr. Kim...
…is trying to kill me.  With food and love.  If you had to pick a way to go , certainly there would be worse methods of execution, but it’s almost gotten to the point I’d rather be lined up against a wall and given one last Camel Light.   Since his initial proclamation that we are brothers, Mr. Kim had further upped the ante, as far as he and I being family is concerned....

Adventures In Street Food #8, Guest Starring The...
One of the nights Julie was here we took a couple of the Xanax she’d smuggled into the country and hit the town for some good old fashioned street food.  First up was some dokpoki around the corner from my apartment.   Here’s Julie about to have her mind blown.  Well, not really, but it was her first bite and I think she enjoyed it.  I, on the other hand, have had an ass full of...
