Four Months
As of today, I’ve been here four months.  One third of the experience is now behind me.  Other than the realization that my company is run by a bunch of fucking Fascists, things so far have been pretty good.   Julie left today.  It was good to have her here.  We saw some cool stuff, ate some good food and drank not a little beer.  I hope I can go visit her in Honduras if continues teaching...

Let It Snow
Ah, the simple things.  It’s snowing again.  Julie seemed unimpressed and went to sleep shortly after we returned from knocking back a few beers at Mr. Parks.  Having spent a winter in Montana I guess I don’t blame her.  Me, I’m still astonished with the whole thing.  Long after she’d fallen asleep, but before I realized it, I would look out my window and marvel at the...

The Shit-Bird Has Landed
Julie arrived at 6:30pm Friday night.  We caught a shuttle back to Seoul and have just enough time to drop her bags off at my place and then get t o Nowon for my companies end of the year party, which I’d managed to get her included in.  She got to meet most of my co-workers and have a little food.  She’s sticking toher guns on this whole “I’m-a-vegatarian” bit, which...

Another Reason...
Why Mr. Kim rules.  Two nights ago I went in for dinner and it was his oldest daughter Aram’s 22nd birthday.  He sat me down with her and her friend to eat.  Her friend, a guy whose name I can’t remember, didn’t speak much English but he and I started talking about sports and wouldn’t you know it, MMA came up.  So he and I are tring to understand each other when Mr. Kim...

Seoul Sucking Fashion
Read this with a couple things in mind.  First, it’s late, I’m buzzed and bored and don’t feel much like writing.  Since my MMA videos are taking a while to load and there’s no new porn to watch, I’ll have to occupy myself with this.  Second, this whole post regarding fashion would be much more effective with pictures.  However, when I run across someone wearing...

Snow Job
Late Sunday evening it finally snowed.  The forecast had called for it three days running and by that time I’d completely disregarded that it might happen.  I’d spent a few hours finishing report cards and dicking about on the internet.  Around 7:30 I stepped out for a pack of cigarettes. Before going any further, I have to make it clear that snow has not been even remotely a factor...

Adventures In Street Food #7
Hodeok.  Or something like that.  Made of rice (shocking, I know) and related to deokpoki, this was like a very soft, but dense pancake with hot, melty brown sugar in the center.  Don’t know why it’s got the greenish tinge.  It’s a winter-only-treat I’m told and was appropriately comforting on a very cold day, if only cause molten sugar exploding on your face feels rather...

It Was a Beautiful Day
It was a beautiful day today.  If you’re a goddamn polar bear.  Or have a layer of subcutaneous fat for insulation, something I have less and less of due to the mostly well rounded Korean diet, lots of walking and little to no snacking.  Cold aside, it really was rather nice out.  The sun was shining, nary a cloud in the sky. It reached a blistering high of 22 degrees today.  As I write...

Report Cards
I’ve got a mountain of report cards to do this week.  I have roughly roughly 13 or 14 classes, each with 15 or so kids in it, many of whom I only see once a week.  After  month and change being at the elementary school, I’m only now to the point where I can differentiated between the class as a whole, let alone individual students.  Unless a kid is really bad, (I’m talking to...
