Soju Girl
When I was in Korea, this chick’s picture was everywhere. Jared and I just took to calling her Soju Girl. I recently found the Korean station on my cable and have been watching a bit. This girl has her own reality show. Turns out she has a name: Hyori Lee. Doesn’t have the ring that Soju Girl has, but I’ll take it. If I go back to Korea, I’m going to see if she...

Hit The Road
Today I’m leaving on a week long tour to play bass with my friend’s band. I haven’t toured in years, so even if it’s only for a short time I am looking forward to it. We are going to play on the radio when we are in Phoenix on May 4th. It’ll be between 8-10, Pacific Standard Time. Here is a link to the station. Here is a link to the specific show we will be...

Real Quick...
The soju I get in America is not the same as the soju I got in Korea. Here it just tastes like rubbing alcohol. There, I found it ha d a flavor which accentuated the food and air and life. It was not just hot, clear, liquid pain. I found a place here to eat good, authentic Korean food. the kimchi is fucking delicious. All the banchan are real high quality. But it isn’t the same as...

A Tumblr Dedicated To K-Pop! →
Save for Nobody, I never took a liking to any K-Pop. But I know a lot of you did. This guy is tumbling about it and i don’t think he is even in Korea. Madness.

Told You So...
I once asked a co-worker named Fred why he didn’t get a job with a new company. He’d recently married a Korean girl and planned on being in the ROK for quite a while. Fred looked at me for a second and said “I prefer the devil I know to the devil I don’t”.
In news that is not at all shocking, I just got word that the hagwan I worked for went teets-up. An expert...

This is a cool website I found dedicated to all... →
It’s raining in southern California and I really want some makgeolli. I do not want to spend $12 on a bottle of it though and the women working at the store where I have been buying kimchi didn’t know where I could get any. I’m gonna have to go back to Seoul just for the magkeolli soaked rainy days.

Honduras Bound
Next month I’m going to Honduras for a couple of weeks to see my friend Julie. She was the only person who can to visit while I was in Korea, so it’s only fair I return the favor.
We’re gonna go to Copan and see Mayan ruins. Check out some shit on the north coast, hopefully a Garifuna village. Then hopefully go to Guanaja to sit on a beach and drink all their beer. Of...

Korean lulz of the day: my director thinks I'm...

jessicainkorea:
I had to get another health checkup today because my health checkup last week was just a drug test. So they weighed me, lol.
Right afterwards my director was like, “It’s OK, you can lose the weight quickly in Korea, Americans eat a lot of food.”
I think I’m supposed to be offended, but the cultural difference from America - where a boss could be fired...

Monica
I came home tonight to an e-mail telling me one of my students had died. In the course of a year, I had quite a lot of students in my charge. Some were immediately forgettable, some I think of now and then. Others left an indelible mark on me and my life. That was Monica. A truly special woman. For seven months she was in my early afternoon Monday, Wednesday and Friday class. And every time...

And here is a link to Jared’s blog. he post more often than Jordan does, but the subject matter is more varied. From his experiences in Korea to random philosophical musings. I wrote quite a lot about both of these fellows, but this is a good way to to get a closer look at who both of them are.
As I run, the river widens and the highways... →
Here is a link to Jordans blog. I should have left one up a long time ago. He doesn’t post very often, but has been killing it lately. His last three or so posts have been extraordinarily well written.

Now that my pictures are all done being posted, I can go back to my normal blogging!
I’ve been thinking a lot about my temporary reintegration into American society, and how it is just as weird as everyone said it would be.
First, there are all the little things that seem so strange. Four-way stops (and any sort of traffic law enforcement), thinking in Fahrenheit (It’s 30?!...
Han.
howtobegood:
Han (한;恨) is different from what Germans believe means hatred or bitterness. When I tried to explain the term to a friend today, who is currently learning Korean, I found it difficult as it roots from the hardships and sufferings endured by Koreans throughout the Korean history. I knew, that it refers to what Koreans call unfinished business (as in ”unresolved resentment”), but in...

30 Seconds To Farce: Is Jared Leto The Best Actor...

Celebrities have long been in the practice of crossing over from one market to the next. As far back as Sinatra (and even further if I took the time to do a little research), musicians have tried their hands at acting and visa versa. Old blue eyes and few other legends withstanding, the lion’s share of fame deluded fuck-wits who were foolish enough to to attempt the jump fell on...
If you were Korean, Korea might suck balls.
– Caitlin makes a good point.
Those weird things around the text should be quotation marks. I’ve done something weird to my Tumblr that changes them into a lower case “a” with a hat on and something that resembles the sign for euros.

Two months and some change after coming home, the time is nearing when I’ll no longer have new things to post. I can’t very well maintain a blog about my experience in Seoul when I no longer live there and posting about the adjustment period I’ve gone through during repatriation has a brief shelf life. More and more I’m beginning to feel that by continuing to post things...

Seoul Habits Die Hard
Six weeks and some change after coming home and I’m still trying to shed all the specifically Korean manners and peculiarities I picked up while there. The inclination to remove my shoes when walking inside any building was the first thing to go, though it was curiously strong when I first got back. I still find myself shoeless more often than before.
Other things haven’t left me so...
What's In A Meme?
knobthrough:
It seems a though the word meme didn’t exist until recently. To be more specific, it wasn’t the buzz word that it seems to be now, the glowing little bulb of self importance which lights the egos of the collective blogosphere and casts shadows upon the peons who don’t know what GPOYW means.
A quick wiki search informed me that meme is actually newish word, created by Richard...
Big Spanging.
Two guys outside asking for spare chainge. One holding a puppy. One with a unibrow and a curious hair cut.
Puppy Guy: Can you spare some change after you come out?
Me: Sorry man, not tonight.
Puppy Guy: I said after you came out.
Me: Well it'll still be tonight, won't it, asshole?
If you're asking me for money, you should drop the attitude, dick.
People begged for change sometimes in Korea. Of course, I never knew if they were being assholes about it or not.
